Curriculum

Education plays the most important role in acquiring professional and social skills and a positive attitude to face the challenges of life. A curriculum is what constitutes a total teaching learning program comprising overall aims, syllabus, materials, methods and assessment. In short it provides a framework of knowledge and capabilities seen as appropriate to a particular level. It is also one of the means of bringing about qualitative improvement in an educational system.

Welcome to the Kindergarten at TCS

TCS Kindergarten is spread over two gears with KGI and KG2. We are a passionate and dedicated team who take pride in delivering the planned curriculum to provide a broad, balanced and relevant programme of opportunities for all.

We provide concrete, multi-sensorial and relevant experiences. This being the foundation stage, the curriculum is activity based to strengthen Language and Communication, Numeracy, Gross and Fine Motor Skills, Emotional, Social and Creative Skills.

We specifically plan and adapt our teaching through inquiry-based thinking, using the child’s voice as the starting point for all of our focus activities and provision which have cross-curricular links and real-life learning opportunities.

We strive to foster an enthusiasm for learning, which encourages every student to reach the highest possible academic standards. A wide range of teaching and learning strategies are used depending on the students’ age and stage of learning. Information technology is integrated into the curriculum to support and extend learning.

The curriculum at TCS is a mix of discovery and delight, sparking senses and stimulating experiential learning. Our littlest learners thrive in their new world, imbibing concepts in a safe, caring space, through imaginative, creative methods and inter-disciplinary hands-on learning. They use their senses, movement, a multitude of interesting materials and play to explore, investigate and collaborate.

TCS Kindergarten uses different instructional strategies to help children learn at their own pace while in a social and collaborative environment. The planned learning centers based on the Prime and Specific areas of development have a huge impact on children.

Impact on Communication and Language

Communication and Language is the heart of everything that our school does, every lesson subject, and all reading and writing skills are from strong communication and language skills. Along with several easily accessible methods that support interaction and conversation, the skill of linking modeled language and oral rehearsal to introduce new vocabulary in a simple, effective way is demonstrated with the ‘Scaffolded Talk’ technique.

Impact on Personal, Social and Emotional Development

We promote personal, social and emotional skills in the classroom by providing children with a safe, nurturing environment. Teachers play key roles in supporting children in the development of social and emotional skills.

Daily routines are planned to help children feel safe and secure. Children develop the ability to initiate and maintain trusting relationships with adults and peers; to understand and express emotions in appropriate ways; to become independent, explore and engage with the environment and make responsible decisions.

Impact on Physical Development

We encourage children to be independent in their learning and thinking. Our classrooms ensure there is a variety of resources made available to support the individual development of each child to support their physical development journey. Opportunities to enhance gross and fine motor skills are planned and executed in the classroom as well as during Physical Activity classes.

Impact on  Literacy

Literacy is the paramount area of learning that practitioners focus on in the Early Years. At TCS, we build on skills children have been learning to expand their ability to read and write. It involves encouraging children to link sounds to read and write the words, phrases and sentences. Students are also  given access to a wide range of reading materials (books, poems, and other written materials) to ignite their interest.

Impact on Numeracy

Students develop a strong grounding to excel their mathematical skills. Opportunities to encourage students to count, build shapes, and add numbers are created based on their interests and understanding. By providing frequent and varied opportunities to build and apply this understanding — such as using manipulatives, including small pebbles and tens frames for organizing counting — students develop a secure base of knowledge and vocabulary from which mastery of mathematics is built.

Impact on Understanding the World

Our students are provided opportunities to be familiar with what is around them and understand the environment that they live in. Students are introduced with knowledge about the world that covers a wide spectrum including places, materials, objects, plants, people around, celebrations and living creatures.

Impact on Expressive Arts and Design

Our school believes that every child is different but each one is unique. We observe and identify children’s interest and then provide opportunities to them to create amazing creations, inventions or making marks on paper that represent for them an experience or something they have seen. Encouraging children to choose and use materials and resources in an open-ended way is the key to helping them in making choices and have confidence in their own ideas.

Welcome to the Primary Years at TCS Dubai

Inspired by the Experiential Learning and Visible Thinking approach

Primary school is the fundamental place where a child gains knowledge and imbibes skills for life, leading to becoming an independent learner. Keeping in mind this goal and the vision of our school, To provide stimulating world-class education for life, we at primary offer a curriculum that intends to nurture every child so that they become happy, healthy, positive, proactive, inquisitive, and creative learners.

The primary curriculum is planned carefully and progressively, so that there is coherence and full coverage of all aspects of the transition stage from KG to lower primary. The curriculum is designed to meet the UAE National Agenda Parameters and the structure of the CBSE Curriculum is embedded and established well with international elements for a smooth transition of students to the upper primary.

We aim at the holistic development of students through joyful learning techniques that extend learning beyond the classrooms. Students are guided and trained to acquire 21st Century Learning Skills. They are exposed to challenging and differentiated learning experiences which nurture critical thinking, problem-solving, reasoning, and decision-making skills. During Primary School, we embrace the students’ innate inquisitive nature to develop their basic skills through first-hand experiences. They are encouraged to question, explore, apply, and test what they know, whilst treating each other with respect and developing the beginnings of social etiquette.

The wide range of extra-curricular activities and wellness programmes ensures the all-round development of the child’s personality and develops the awareness of the global needs and competencies pertaining to self and community. Welcome to the Middle School at TCS

The middle school acts as a transition, moving the student away from the world of childhood and introducing social skills and mastery of knowledge and techniques that will be further developed in high school. To succeed in this role, middle schools nurture their students socially and emotionally, providing guidance in social relationships as well as academic and other studies.

We allow students to develop their knowledge, understanding and creativity through a curriculum underpinned by the TCS Core Values of “ Leadership, Perseverance, Empathy, Innovation, Motivation and Global Citizenship’. Our middle school (Grade 6-8) is imaginatively designed to provide a wealth of opportunities where students can take intelligent risks, ask questions to satisfy their intellectual curiosity and explore ideas to deepen their understanding; while promoting critical thinking skills.

We strongly believe in developing our students holistically and seek every opportunity to develop them academically and as well-rounded global citizens. We have a competency-based approach to learning, which is firmly embedded into all aspects of the curriculum, providing all learners with the opportunity to develop mastery across each area.
